‘Getting closer’: One of Man Utd’s three main PL midfielder targets has now green-lit a five-year deal

Adam Wharton is reportedly favouring a move to Liverpool over the host of clubs interested in him this year – including Manchester United .

Indeed, the Red Devils have been firm admirers of the Crystal Palace starlet ever since he broke onto the scene and began proving himself in the Premier League following his £22 million move from Blackburn Rovers two years ago.

Wharton has only continued to impress in the top flight , and he has now racked up 57 appearances for the Eagles, having quickly cemented his spot as a mainstay in the starting XI.

What’s more, the 21-year-old played an integral role in Palace’s history-making FA Cup campaign last season, which saw them overturn Manchester City in the final and claim their first-ever major honour.

Alas, it goes without saying that Wharton’s name has made its way onto the shortlist of a number of suitors.

After losing Eberechi Eze late in the summer and facilitating Marc Guehi’s switch to Manchester City a fortnight ago, Palace have made it abundantly clear that the three-capped England starlet will not be on the move this month.

However, there will be little they can do to block a move at the end of the season , especially with Oliver Glasner already preparing to pack his bags and jump ship when his contract expires in June.

At Old Trafford, Wharton is one of three concrete targets being eyed by INEOS ahead of Casemiro’s departure, along with Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.

The trio are all valued around the same prices by their respective clubs, and given how valuable they are to each side, the fees could well exceed £100m – especially if the players excel at the World Cup this summer.

According to journalist Nicolo Schira, Wharton has already made up his mind.

“Adam Wharton is getting closer to Liverpool from Crystal Palace,” Schira revealed this morning. “The midfielder has already given his availability to join LFC with a five-year contract.”
