Marc Guehi is close to agreeing personal terms with Manchester City and is open to leaving Crystal Palace in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The England international has less than six months remaining on his current deal with Palace, who risk losing their captain on a free transfer this summer.

Liverpool and Arsenal have also expressed interest in Guehi, while Barcelona met with the defender’s agents last month.

However, The Times reports that City are keen to secure a deal in January and are now in talks with Palace over a deal for Guehi.

The report claims that Palace are holding out for a £40 million fee and City have made it clear in negotiations that they are prepared to beat rival offers, as well as compensate Guehi for the huge signing-on fee he would have likely received as a free agent in the summer.

Chelsea are also due to receive a 20 per cent sell-on fee as part of their initial agreement for Guehi’s £18m move to Palace in 2021.

Liverpool came close to signing Guehi last summer but his £35m move to Anfield was stopped.

The 25-year-old was undergoing a medical with Liverpool on deadline day when Palace pulled the plug on the deal.

Arsenal have registered their interest but the Premier League leaders, along with Liverpool, had been aiming to sign Guehi as a free agent at the end of the season.

Speaking last week, Palace manager Oliver Glasner admitted Guehi could leave before the end of the January window.

‘Everybody wants that he plays for Crystal Palace, signs a new contract and stays here for ever,’ Glasner said.

‘On the other side, there’s the situation that the contract ends in the summer and if somebody is coming, there will be a moment when the club says, ‘now the financial issue is more important than the sport issue.’ We have to do it and try to get the best. That’s why I’m always saying, ‘I don’t know.’ Because this is different.

‘There will be a threshold where the club has to say [sell] … If the player says, ‘I want to leave’ and the money is above the threshold, it will happen. I’m not so naive not to know that if a massive offer comes from City and Marc wants to do it, it will happen.’
