No January exit: Bruno Fernandes to remain at Old Trafford, eyes clarity on manager this summer

Bruno Fernandes has no plans to leave Manchester United this month despite reports this week.

Speculation has emerged in recent days that Fernandes was considering his future at Old Trafford, following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim as head coach.

Michael Carrick has been appointed as interim manager until the end of the campaign , as Manchester United conduct their search for a permanent replacement.

According to the BBC , Fernandes intends to stay at Manchester United despite recent reports. The Portugal international said recently that he had been 'hurt' by the club's willingness to sell him last summer, amid a big bid from Saudi Arabia.

"From the club I felt it was, 'If you go it's not so bad for us'. It hurts me a bit," he said to Canal 11.

"More than hurting me, it makes me sad. I'm a player that no-one can criticise, I'm always available, I always give my best. I could have left in this transfer window, I would have earned much more money. I would have won many trophies this season, but I decided not to go, not only for family reasons but because I genuinely love the club."

Fernandes rejected that approach, while Amorim's desire to retain the club captain - despite the board's openness to a sale - was also key.

Saudi side Al-Hilal were reportedly prepared to pay a fee of around £100m to sign Fernandes, with the offer of a lucrative contract worth around £700,000-a-week.

Interest in Fernandes remains from Saudi Arabia, though the 31-year-old has no interest in a Middle East move at this stage of his career.

Should Fernandes depart, he would look to remain in Europe. It is understood the midfielder will reassess his situation in the summer, when he will have just one year on his contract and United's managerial picture will be clearer.

Fernandes has remained a key figure for Manchester United this season despite the side's inconsistent performances.

He has scored five goals in 18 Premier League appearances, while his eight assists are a league-leading total. No player across Europe's top-five leagues has made more key passes (56) than Fernandes in 2025-26.
