Roma and Fiorentina threatened with travel bans after fans fight on highway

Roma and Fiorentina fans are under fire after roadside fights overshadowed their respective Serie A clashes this weekend.

The Giallorossi beat Torino 2-0 in Turin, while Fiorentina prevailed 2-1 at Bologna . However, despite the positive results on their travels, the respective clubs have been thrust into the spotlight for more negative reasons.

On Sunday, around 200 fans from the two sides reportedly fought on the side of the highway , armed with iron bars and other items.

The official decision on the matter will be made tomorrow morning at the Ministry of the Interior, following recommendations from the National Observatory on Sports Events (ONMS).

Ezio Simonelli, president of Serie A , spoke about the clashes today, saying:

“What happened on the highway, with the clashes between fans, is very serious. We are doing so much to build a clean image for football, and these things absolutely don’t help. In fact, I sent a message of solidarity that I would like to reiterate here with the police, for their efforts to maintain public order.”

“I know there will be meetings on this topic tomorrow, but Italian football cannot afford to mix sport with criminal matters and clashes that endanger the health not only of those participating, but also of those who must intervene to calm them down.”
