Victoria Beckham's confession in letter about David is heartbreaking amid Brooklyn fallout

A letter Victoria Beckham once wrote to herself about Sir David has added a fresh dimension to the increasingly bitter rift between the couple and their son, Brooklyn . Last week, the Beckhams' eldest child took to social media to publicly criticise his parents , branding them "controlling" and accusing them of attempting to "ruin" his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham .
The comments come after years of mounting tension within the family, with Brooklyn and Nicola frequently positioned at the centre of the feud. Much has been made of David and Victoria's meticulous focus on their public image and the cultivation of 'Brand Beckham', leading some observers to suggest that aesthetics and reputation have been prioritised over family harmony.
But a letter written by the former Spice Girl for British Vogue, reflecting on her first meeting with her future husband in 1997, offers a different perspective. Far from image-obsessed, it suggests that family and shared values have long been at the heart of the Beckham partnership.
"It will happen to you in the Manchester United players' lounge. Although you will get a little drunk, so exact details are hazy," Victoria wrote.

"While the other football players stand at the bar drinking with their mates, you will see David standing aside with his family. (He's not even in the first team at this stage - you are the famous one.) And he has such a cute smile.
"You, too, are close to your family, and you will think how similar he feels to you. He's going to ask for your number. (He still has the London-to-Manchester plane ticket on which you wrote it.)"
Brooklyn's relationship with Nicola began in 2019, with the pair getting engaged in 2020 before eventually tying the knot in 2022. While relations were said to be warm at first, cracks began to emerge in the lead-up to the wedding.

A major source of friction is widely believed to stem from the controversy surrounding Nicola's wedding dress. She is understood to have initially planned to wear a gown designed by Victoria's fashion label, before ultimately choosing a custom Valentino creation for her walk down the aisle.
Brooklyn has claimed that his mother "cancelled making Nicola's dress at the eleventh hour... forcing her to urgently find a new dress." He also asserted that on the night before the wedding, family members told him Nicola was "not blood" and "not family."
The aspiring chef went on to accuse Victoria of "hijacking" his first dance with Nicola at the reception, before allegedly behaving "inappropriately" on the dancefloor - actions he claims left him feeling "uncomfortable" and "humiliated." On Friday, wedding DJ Fat Tony offered further insight into the incident.

"There was no *-dropping, there was no black cat PVC catsuits, there was no Spice Girl action," he said during an appearance on ITV's This Morning. "[Pop star] Marc Anthony was performing, and he called Brooklyn onto the stage. Everyone then expected Nicola to go up and do the first dance."
He explained that Anthony then asked the "most beautiful woman in the world " to join Brooklyn on the dancefloor before saying Victoria's name instead of the bride's. "Brooklyn was devastated as he thought he was about to get his first dance with his wife," he added.
"Nicola had left the room crying her eyes out, and Brooklyn is stuck there on stage. They then do this dance, and Marc goes, 'Put your hands on your mother's hips' and it was a Latin thing. The whole situation was very awkward for everyone in the room."

Reports of issues in the family quickly began circulating in the aftermath - and while attempts to quash those rumours with several joint public appearances together helped, things escalated in 2025 when Brooklyn and Nicola decided not to attend David's 50th birthday party.
Months later, David and Victoria were notably absent from Brooklyn and Nicola's vow renewal ceremony, signalling a deep divide. Later in the year, Brooklyn was nowhere to be seen when his father was officially knighted.
