Liverpool put Tottenham to the sword 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday but suffered a blow when Alexander Isak limped off injured. The Swedish striker was caught by a late sliding tackle from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven as he bagged his side's first goal.
The Reds have somewhat recovered from a dire spell and are unbeaten in their last five top-flight fixtures. They have now won two on the trot thanks to victory in north London.
Xavi Simons saw red in the first half before Isak was substituted on and played through to give Arne Slot' s side the lead. But as he scored, Van de Ven's follow-through contorted his leg and Isak was unable to celebrate the game's first goal due to the pain .
Liverpool' s club-record signing was treated by medical staff before hobbling off and he underwent surgery for an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture on Monday. No timeline has been placed on his return by the club but a former Premier League star has given him their return estimate as Mirror Football brings you all the latest from Anfield.
The Swedish star, who only arrived on Merseyside this summer for a mouth-watering record £120million , had already suffered from a lack of fitness and injury before the game against Tottenham .

In an update issued on Monday night, it was confirmed Isak has undergone surgery on a leg fracture . Liverpool are not putting a timeframe on when Isak could return, however he is expected to be absent for at least a number of months.
With Isak now set for an extended spell on the sidelines, ex-Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor stated on talkSPORT that he believes fans won't see the 26-year-old again this season.

"I don't think he Isak plays again this season," said Agbonlahor. "I just looked at the injury and I've seen that happen before, where his leg got tangled. That's a broken leg that is.
The former Villa man also warns that coming back from such an injury isn't easy. He added: "That's a long time out. You don't always come back the same either."
Agbonlahor also thinks that a particular Premier League star should now be eyed up by the Reds in January with them losing Isak's firepower. He continued: "I think now Liverpool might join the race for Antoine Semenyo.
"There's talk about Man United, Man City. I don't know why he'd go to Manchester United . Ridiculous take. If I'm him, I'm saying, 'Why even message me?'"

Reports back up Agbonlahor's suggestion as The Telegraph claim Slot's side may now activate the Bournemouth forward's £65m release clause in light of the Isak injury.
This report also states that both Manchester United and Manchester City are showing interest in the Ghana international, whose release clause is thought to expire on January 10.
