£300k-a-week midfielder ‘interested in joining’ United after rejecting contract offers, INEOS will meet price tag

Ruben Neves would reportedly be ‘interested in joining’ Manchester United if a deal became feasible.

According to Football Insider , the seasoned midfielder is sizing up a move back to Europe following almost three years plying his trade in Saudi Arabia.

Neves joined Al-Hilal from Wolverhampton Wanderers, whom he captained throughout his final season at the club, in a £47 million deal back in 2023.

He has now racked up 112 appearances for the Saudi outfit, scoring 17 goals and assisting a further 28 across all competitions.

Despite playing in the Middle East and not being under the spotlight in the same way he was in the Premier League, the 28-year-old has continued to be a mainstay in the Portugal national team setup and will be looking to play an integral role for his country at this summer’s World Cup.

Returning to England would undoubtedly be one way to ensure he’s up to speed ahead of the tournament, as the English top flight is widely regarded as the most competitive division in world football.

Should he favour a mid-season switch to Old Trafford , he’d be vying to secure Champions League qualification with the Red Devils while partnering the likes of Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo or Manuel Ugarte.

What’s more, it’s thought Al-Hilal are looking for a fee of only £17 million to sell Neves this month due to the fact his contract expires in June, and he has rebuffed offers to extend his stay beyond his current deal. Alas, they risk losing such a valuable asset for nothing in just five months’ time.

One factor that may deter United from making a formal approach, however, is that the former Molineux talisman earns in the region of £300-330,000 per week – a wage that puts him on par with the Reds’ highest earners Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.
