Tyler Fredricson set for January departure

Ruben Amorim’s first major change as Manchester United boss was playing with a back five, which included three centre-backs.

That handed a glorious chance to academy defenders to try and impress the Portuguese, with Godwill Kukonki catching the former Sporting CP manager’s eye.

However, it was Tyler Fredricson who broke through into the senior team last season, with the 20-year-old starting twice in the Premier League.

He was handed another opportunity to impress this season, but a disastrous first-half performance against Grimsby Town saw the Red Devils crash out of the EFL Cup.

And since then, the England U18 international hardly got another whiff, playing a mere four minutes for the first team in a late cameo against Newcastle United.

With Amorim gone, and Michael Carrick brought in as caretaker head coach, the 20-time English league champions have shifted to a back four system again.

That means only two centre-backs can play at a time, and with Lisandro Martinez , Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, and Ayden Heaven all ahead of him in the pecking order, chances are expected to be limited for the Stockport-born starlet.

According to The Athletic , INEOS are aware of this and do not want the defender’s progress to stagnate and hence, are eyeing a potential loan exit.

Plenty of EFL clubs as well as European top-division teams have expressed their interest.

“Tyler Fredricson is expected to be the subject of loan proposals by clubs in the EFL and Europe’s top divisions.

“The 20-year-old centre-back has made two senior appearances for United this season, starting the Carabao Cup defeat by fourth-tier Grimsby and coming on for the final minutes of the Premier League win against Newcastle last month, while also being named in nine other top-flight matchday squads.

“But his opportunities are set to be limited by the change in head coach, with Carrick preferring a back four to Amorim’s three central defenders.

“Several clubs have registered their interest in a loan, and United feel that as a highly-regarded prospect, Fredricson would benefit from getting regular minutes.”

It will be interesting to see where Tyler Fredricson lands up in the end. United will return to action at the weekend in a blockbuster tie against Arsenal away in North London.
