Man Utd fans will be delighted as Romano reveals imminent contract talks: “One of the priorites”

Manchester United are reportedly keen to armour Kobbie Mainoo with a new and improved contract, with negotiations expected to begin soon.

On Thursday afternoon, Casemiro announced his departure at the end of the season, as the Red Devils opted against exercising their option to automatically renew his expiring contract.

The Brazilian is one of the highest earners at the club, so his exit will free up some space on the wage bill. Moreover, with the veteran leaving the club, Manuel Ugarte failing to convince, and Bruno Fernandes constantly linked with the Saudi Pro League, Man Utd will at least want to secure the future of Mainoo, who is the youngest of the current midfield bunch.

The Englishman started his campaign on a woeful note, failing to earn a single Premier League start while Ruben Amorim was at the club.

The 20-year-old had already asked to leave United on loan in August, and replicated his request ahead of the January transfer session. However, the miseries he endured during the previous regime are now behind him.

In fact, Mainoo has swiftly been confirmed as a regular starter under Michael Carrick, with whom he shares an excellent rapport.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano , the England international is now ‘very happy’ at Carrington, as INEOS prepare to offer him a new contract.

The transfer market insider provided some updates on the situation in the latest video posted on his official YouTube channel, revealing that MUFC are ‘keen’ to tie the midfield down with a new deal. The player’s current contract will expire in June 2027.

Mainoo currently earns around £25,000 per week (gross), a salary that pales in comparison to what his Man Utd teammates collect. Therefore, the youngster’s contract extension isn’t only necessary to secure his future with a long-term deal, but also to grant him a much-deserved pay rise.

Romano insists that the United officials consider Mainoo’s new contract ‘one of the priorities’ for the club, so it remains to be seen if the two parties will be able to find a swift agreement.
