Manchester United have been urged not to make Oliver Glasner their next manager following claims the job would be "too big" for him. United are currently on the hunt for a new permanent boss after sacking Ruben Amorim earlier this month .

While Michael Carrick enjoyed an ideal start to life as the club's interim manager, Crystal Palace coach Glasner is among the names tipped to be Amorim's long-term replacement . The Austrian announced last week that he would be leaving the Eagles at the end of the season when his current contract expires.

Glasner's position was placed under the spotlight further following Palace's 2-1 defeat to Sunderland in the Premier League as he slammed the club's decision to sell Marc Guehi to Manchester City . However, former United goalkeeper Ben Foster has questioned whether Glasner's success at Palace could realistically translate to Old Trafford.

The ex- West Brom and Wrexham stopper also voiced concerns over tactical fit, warning Glasner could face the same issues Amorim encountered by sticking to his preferred system.

Speaking on his Fozcast podcast, Foster said: "He's the favourite to go and get the Man United job, but I just don’t think it would work out for him. I think it's too big a job. He would try and play the same formation that he's trying to play at Crystal Palace with Man United and he hasn't got the players.

"If you see the way that Man United played at the weekend, it was 4-4-2 basically and Palace do not play that way. In fairness, the players that Palace have got are actually really good in those positions. They have got wing backs, but it won't work at Man United."

Glasner fired shots at Palace bosses on Saturday, just days after announcing his intention to step down at the end of the season.

He said: "We feel like we're being abandoned completely. Selling our captain one day before a game - there is no understanding for this. We are preparing and then yesterday [Friday], I get told that our captain will be sold, but why not next week?

"At least he can play this game and then next week, other players are coming back. It makes me really upset. If your heart gets ripped out twice a year, with [Eberechi] Eze one day before a game in the summer and your captain one day before a game - I've just got no understanding."

Quizzed over whether he might leave before the end of the campaign, he said: "I don't know. I always have a huge appreciation for this group of players. I completely trust them. Their character is exceptional and we will stick together and turn around.

"I will never step back because these players deserve Oliver Glasner as their manager and leader and this is what I will do. Sometimes it would help if we had a little bit of support."

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
