The midweek Champions League action is over and attentions naturally turn to what promises to be a thrilling weekend of drama in the Premier League .

Arsenal were held to a disappointing goalless draw away to Nottingham Forest last time out but still boast an imperious seven-point advantage at the top of the table thanks to slip-ups elsewhere.

Next up for the Gunners is a meeting with Manchester United, which most would have been deemed a mismatch even a week ago despite the age-old rivalry between the two clubs.

However, the Red Devils’ statement 2-0 victory over Manchester City in Michael Carrick ’s first game as interim manager will have Arsenal’s fanbase feeling a little nervier come kick-off on Sunday afternoon.

Things went from bad to worse for Pep Guardiola’s men after their derby day nightmare as they slumped to one of their worst-ever defeats at the hands of Norwegian minnow Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday evening.

If they fail to pick up maximum points at home to basement boys Wolves this weekend, their dwindling title hopes may be completely extinguished and there will inevitably be talk of crisis at the Etihad.

Third-placed Aston Villa also find themselves in need of a morale-boosting win as they prepare to face Newcastle, having dropped points in three of their last four matches in the English top flight.

Previewing all ten of this weekend’s fixtures for Sportskeeda , former England, Arsenal and Aston Villa star Paul Merson delivered his predictions and pinpointed where each game could be won and lost.
