12 final-third passes, 4 big chances made: One Man Utd man proves time and time again why he’s irreplaceable

Bruno Fernandes stole the show as Manchester United cruised to a second-half victory away to Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight.

Ruben Amorim will likely personally be thanking his skipper for overseeing such a triumphant display, as we can only speculate how the affair might have looked had Fernandes not been playing .

Despite the Red Devils taking a 25th-minute lead at Molineux, the hosts were able to pull one back through Jean-Ricner Bellegarde to score their first goal in nine hours (since October 26) on the brink of half-time.

Even amidst Wolves’ abysmal record, it came as little to no surprise to the Old Trafford faithful that United would be the ones to concede to them.

Yet, amends were quickly made after the interval, as it took Bryan Mbeumo only six minutes to restore the Reds’ lead. 11 minutes later, Fernandes notched his second contribution of the night when assisting Mason Mount in a really easy-on-the-eye passage of play to make it 3-1.

The Portuguese talisman further rubbed salt in Wolves’ wounds when he converted a spot-kick late on, courtesy of Yerson Mosquera handling the ball inside the area.

Mount was named the Man of the Match by Sky Sports’ co-commentator Alan Smith at full-time, but Fernandes’ performance undoubtedly deserves some recognition .
