Alexander Isak supported as Amanda Staveley breaks silence on Newcastle transfer saga

Former Newcastle United stakeholder Amanda Staveley has revealed that she and Mehrdad Ghodoussi "love" Alexander Isak and are confident he will be a success at Liverpool . Isak has struggled since leaving Newcastle in acrimonious circumstances back in the summer.

Despite swiftly becoming a crowd favourite at St James' Park, notching 62 goals and 11 assists across 109 outings, Isak expressed a desire to complete a move to the reigning Premier League champions following the 2024/25 campaign.

Isak was absent for a large portion of Eddie Howe's pre-season preparations as he trained with former club Real Sociedad, before being sidelined upon his return to Tyneside. The striker did not feature in any pre-season matches or train with his former teammates for much of the summer before eventually getting his wish and joining Liverpool.

Isak subsequently sealed a £125million switch to Anfield on deadline day, reports Chronicle Live . Despite the dramatic circumstances, Staveley has recently revealed she harbours no resentment towards Isak, even suggesting he will excel "really well" at his new club.

"I'm so proud of Newcastle and how they're doing," said Staveley in an interview with Sky Sports , where she was alongside her husband, Ghodoussi, while attending Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn II on Saturday evening in North London.

"And you know, we love Alex and we know he's going to do really well at Liverpool. He's a great player - Liverpool have got an extraordinary player, but equally so, it's great to see the [Newcastle] forwards doing so well and Newcastle performing really well."

Staveley was also quizzed about whether the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) were hampering Newcastle's pursuit of success in England's top division and Europe. When pressed on whether the regulations need reforming, Staveley responded: "No, no.

"I think the PSR rules are actually quite helpful and they're there to help give fair competition. We navigated them well and we welcome them."

Ghodoussi then added: "They're there for a reason. They will adapt and change in time, I'm sure, like everything does. But look, Newcastle's doing fantastically well, obviously they're having a bit of a hiccup now on the Premier League, but they're doing fantastically well in the Champions League and we're super proud of Eddie [Howe] and the boys."

Isak has scored just one goal for Liverpool following his big-money move from Newcastle, which came against Southampton in the Carabao Cup in September. The Sweden international is yet to score in the Premier League this term, after finding the back of the net 23 times in the top flight with the Magpies last season.

Following Isak's exit, Newcastle moved to bring in Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart, who has made a strong impression in the northeast since arriving. The 23-year-old has netted four goals from eight outings so far for the Magpies in the Premier League.

Newcastle also brought in Yoane Wissa from Brentford, but the DR Congo international is yet to play under Eddie Howe due to a knee problem picked up whilst on international duty.
