Amorim admits Manchester United ‘nowhere near’ required level
Ruben Amorim has admitted Manchester United are not even ‘near’ the level required to compete at the top of the Premier League .
Amorim’s side lost 1-0 to Everton at Old Trafford on Monday night in a humbling home defeat.
Despite the visitors being reduced to 10 men inside 13 minutes, following a bizarre clash between Idrissa Gueye and Everton teammate Michael Keane, United could not gain a foothold in the game.
The loss leaves the Red Devils 10th in the table with questions again asked of Amorim, who recently reached 12 months in charge of the club. With a tough trip to Crystal Palace on the horizon this weekend, United are in danger of falling significantly adrift of the European places.
Discussing his side’s struggles against Everton , Amorim admitted the performance was not up to standard.
“I know which point we are in,” he said. “I have that feeling during this run, I always talk about that.
“We are not there. Not even near the point we should be to fight for the best positions in the league.
“We have a lot to do and we need to be perfect to win games. We were not perfect today.”
