Andre Onana still retains hope of reviving his career at Manchester United once he returns from his loan spell in Turkey - but would equally consider a move to another Premier League club.

The Cameroon goalkeeper had spent two unconvincing years at Old Trafford and was injured to start the season, before surprisingly being allowed to leave for Super Lig side Trabzonspor once England's transfer window had slammed shut.

His position at Old Trafford was unclear as Altay Bayindir began the season as first choice, owing to an injury to Onana, before the club also signed Belgian youngster Senne Lammens. Despite heading elsewhere, the iNews report that the ex-Inter Milan goalkeeper is keen on returning.

Trabzonspor are eyeing a permanent stay for Onana, but his long-term focus appears to be back in England. Lammens has become the first choice shot-stopper in Manchester, impressing early on, and that could leave a challenging situation for Onana.

As a result he has not ruled out manufacturing a move to another top flight club in England, where he could be first choice should the route to United's No.1 spot be blocked off.

Onana has endured an error-strewn period in England, which could yet count against him. Ruben Amorim chose to drop him last season after several high-profile blunders that ultimately cost the Red Devils on numerous occasions.

That said, interest from overseas has remained. Onana turned down a move to Monaco earlier this summer, only after receiving reassurances for Amorim that he was a part of his plans.

The club's stance was altered when Onana made more errors during the embarrassing Carabao Cup loss at Grimsby earlier this season.

Despite that there is understood to still be interest from France, Turkey and clubs in Saudi Arabia. That could prove tempting for both Onana and United depending on how next summer plays out with those at Old Trafford keen to continue lowering their wage bill with player sales.

Amorim said on his goalkeeper's loan departure: “We saw Andre had a very, very good season at Inter. The quality is there. But we are in the club and sometimes, in the moment, things can get harder and harder.

“You can be really experienced but in this club, the pressure is sometimes so hard on every detail. I think we understood that this needed a change. Sometimes it’s hard to point why. It’s the performance, the moments. The bad luck in some moments was hard on him, was hard on us. Our thinking is to have a change in the goalkeepers.”
