Andre Onana: Man United goalkeeper gives huge hint about where his future lies

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has provided a big hint about his future in his latest remarks as he continues his loan spell at Trabzonspor.

Onana joined Trabzonspor on a season-long loan in September. His future was the subject of intense transfer speculation during the summer but it only became crystal clear that he had no place at United following the acquisition of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

He endured an extremely tough spell at Old Trafford following his big-money move from Inter Milan in 2023, making several high-profile mistakes that dearly cost the team.

When the season started, Ruben Amorim chose to use Altay Bayindir between the sticks but much like Onana, Bayindir proved he could not be relied upon, prompting the club to sanction a swoop for Lammens.

Onana has made 13 Super Lig appearances for Trabzonspor this season, keeping three clean sheets in that period. He has conceded 19 goals.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Onana has no future at United as the club are very happy with Lammens.

Now, Onana has strongly hinted that he would like to remain at Trabzonspor permanently. He spoke to Trabzonspor’s official YouTube channel and gave a glowing review of his time in Turkey so far.

Onana said [as quoted by Telegrafi ], “I’m very happy, believe me. I’m living the best period of my life. I have nothing to complain about, I’m very happy to be here.”

“Sometimes I’m driving and a car cuts in front of me. ‘Onana, stop, I want a picture.’ I think to myself: ‘Yeah, but we can do this another way.’ But when they see me, they’re happy, and so am I.”

He continued, “It was hard at first, but now I understand. They are my people, I love them and I love this feeling because they are very passionate.”

“It’s something wonderful. It’s something you can’t describe unless you’re here.”

“But the time I’ve spent here has been perfect for me. I’m happy to be here.”

“It’s a different lifestyle, but it’s great. Really extraordinary, wonderful.”

Trabzonspor currently sit in third place in the Super Lig standings, seven points adrift of table leaders Galatasaray. Onana and his teammates are next in action on Monday, 5 January, when they take on Galatasaray in the semi-final of the Turkish Super Cup.
