Arne Slot reveals Jeremie Frimpong injury blow for Liverpool before trip to Newcastle

Jeremie Frimpong has been ruled out until after the international break in an injury blow for Liverpool ahead of Monday’s trip to Newcastle.

The Dutch international started at right-back against Bournemouth in the opening match of the champions’ title defence, with the Reds running out 4-2 winners.

But without Frimpong, Arne Slot could turn to Conor Bradley , who is back in first team training for the first time on Thursday, having missed the match against the Cherries.

“Conor trained with us for a few minutes today for the first time,” Slot said. “The medical team was completely right about Jeremie to take him off because he's out until the end of the international break.

“We felt Jeremie had an issue in his hamstring - the medical team did. They were right. A good call from them, as otherwise he could have been out for even longer.”

Slot is not concerned about Frimpong’s future availability due to his fitness record to date in his career with Celtic and Bayer Leverkusen.

“Jeremie has a very positive injury record,” Slot added. “Conor has been out once or twice last season. These things happen.

“We only have two injuries at the same moment but they are in the same position. Wata, Dominik Szoboszlai.”

Joe Gomez is also being carefully managed back from injury and will be assessed on Monday with a view to filling in for Frimpong.

“Gomez hasn't had a setback but he wasn't able to train three days in a row,” Slot said. “We will see where he is on Monday and if he can start. You can't prepare for injuries in one position - you can't have five right-backs. Although we do have three left-backs at the moment!”
