Arne Slot is running out of time at Liverpool and could be sacked in the near future, according to ex- Premier League star Ben Foster . Pressure is currently building on the Dutchman after the Merseyside club slipped further out of the title picture after their 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday .

The Reds now sit three points below the Champions League spots and trail leaders Arsenal by an additional six. Liverpool have been beaten in six of their last seven matches across all competitions and the defeat to Forest marked a second straight 3-0 loss following their defeat against Manchester City .

Former Manchester United and Wrexham goalkeeper Foster reckons Slot is now at risk of losing his job as fans begin to turn on him. The ex- Feyenoord boss enjoyed huge success during his first campaign in charge at Anfield last season as Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy.

However, Foster fears Slot's team have lost all confidence in their ability to defend the title this term and the window for him to address their alarming slump is narrowing every day.

Speaking on the Fozcast podcast, he said: "He's not far (from being sacked). Listen to talkSPORT and listen to the call-ins. I think it's a massive confidence problem. It's a mental problem at the minute.

"Liverpool started the game (against Forest) and were the best team on the pitch. They could have been two or three up in the first half an hour. Then Forest got their goal and heads dropped from Liverpool like you wouldn't believe.

"Title winning teams don't do that. That's all in your head and that's the bit that worries me for Liverpool. He (Slot) is under massive pressure. The fans are gunning for him."

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has called on his team-mates to rally together as scrutiny over their performances increases. The defender also believes the onus is on them, not their manager, to resolve the situation.

Van Dijk said: "We are definitely letting him (Slot) down but we've let ourselves down as well. You look at yourself first and then you help each other, you help each other get out of this mess because at the moment it is a mess – that's just a fact."

Meanwhile, former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp claims it's still too early to consider Slot's future. The ex-Reds midfielder has called on the club's hierarchy to remain calm and give the manager time to turn their fortunes around.

He said: "After Jurgen Klopp leaving the club, I thought it would have some negative effect on the team. There wasn't. They did something absolutely extraordinary and won the league.

"Right now, I think it's time for patience because there will be people, pundits, everyone going crazy, [saying] 'Sack the manager'. [Be] calm, take your time, make sure you assess it. It's been the most difficult pre-season you can imagine for those players."
