Aston Villa head into Sunday’s clash with Manchester United on the back of nine consecutive wins in all competitions. Unai Emery’s side have lost just two of their last 12 matches in league and cup, and six of their last seven games have featured both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals. The hosts have netted at least twice in seven of their last eight outings, but have only managed one clean sheet in their previous seven matches.

However, Villa’s recent record against Manchester United is less impressive, with just two wins from the last 10 meetings between the sides in all competitions. United have lost only once in their last four visits to Villa Park, earning two draws and a win in that span. Five of the last eight encounters between these teams have seen both sides score and over 2.5 goals.

In the Premier League, Manchester United have suffered just one defeat in their last 10 games, though four of those have ended in draws. Seven of United’s last 10 league matches have produced both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals, and they’ve scored at least twice in eight of those fixtures. With both teams in strong attacking form, another high-scoring encounter is expected at Villa Park this weekend.

Unai Emery faces a headache with Emi Martinez (back) and Pau Torres (calf) facing late fitness tests ahead of the match at Villa Park. Jadon Sancho is not available as he is not allowed to face his parent club as per loan rules while Tyrone Mings (thigh) and Ross Barkley (knee) continue to serve long layoffs.

Not much has changed in terms of the injury front with Harry Maguire (thigh) and Matthijs de Ligt (back) hope to end their setbacks later this month. However, the Red Devils will need to make adjustments over the festive period with Bryan Mbuemo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui all on AFCON duty with their respective nations.
