Manchester United are bracing themselves for a hectic January transfer window, but an injury to Benjamin Sesko could throw a spanner in the works. The Red Devils have just over a month to go until they can go into the market for potential new signings.

Sesko was one of five new faces at Old Trafford this summer, joining Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Senne Lammens and Diego Leon. Despite their summer spending spree, United are still rumoured to be eyeing more additions when the New Year rolls around.

However, Sesko's injury set-back could force United to rethink their plans. The Slovenia international suffered a knee injury during United's 2-2 stalemate with Tottenham Hotspur before the international break, with rumours suggesting he could be out of action for up to a month.

That could see Ruben Amorim having to re-shuffle his pack and rely on other squad members to step up in Sesko's absence over the coming weeks. One such player is Joshua Zirkzee , who has been heavily linked with a move away from United since the summer.

Zirkzee has found game-time hard to come by at United this campaign and he's yet to be given a single start by Amorim - in any competition. In fact, the Netherlands international has made just four cameo appearances in the Premier League this term, totalling a mere 82 minutes on the pitch.

Since his £37.4million switch to United in the summer of 2024, Zirkzee has only managed to net seven goals and rumours have been swirling about a potential exit from Old Trafford. With Sesko currently side-lined due to injury, this could provide Zirkzee with more opportunities to prove himself on the pitch in the coming weeks.

Moreover, the Red Devils will need to put a plan into place for the squad changes that are expected in December and January. The Africa Cup of Nations is set to take place in the New Year, as well, which will see Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui representing their respective countries.

This will leave United's forward line somewhat depleted, potentially leading to more game time for Zirkzee.

Given the circumstances, it would not be a shock if United were to prevent Zirkzee from leaving Old Trafford, even if he expressed a desire to do so and an offer was on the table. Recent reports indicate United will indeed block any potential exit for Zirkzee due to the lack of senior forward options in the squad.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
