Bournemouth have enjoyed a solid start to their Premier League campaign, winning five of their 11 matches so far, with four of those victories coming at home. The Cherries have been involved in high-scoring games recently, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six outings, and they have found the net at least twice in six league matches this season. However, defensive solidity has been harder to come by, as Bournemouth have managed just four clean sheets in the league.

While a two-goal defeat at Manchester City was perhaps expected, things went from bad to worse for Andoni Iraola’s side two weeks ago in the West Midlands. Bournemouth suffered a heavy 4-0 loss to Aston Villa, with Antoine Semenyo missing a penalty and Adam Smith forced off with a head injury, compounding a miserable afternoon.

After flirting with the top of the table, Bournemouth have now slipped to ninth place, just three points clear of Everton in 13th, largely due to their struggles away from home. Returning to the Vitality Stadium should provide a boost, as only Manchester City have a better home record this season. Iraola’s men have collected 13 points from a possible 15 on their own turf, and their four home wins already match the total they managed in their final 12 home games of last season.

West Ham, meanwhile, have endured a difficult campaign, losing seven league matches already. Although they arrive on the south coast following two consecutive home wins, the Hammers have lost three of their five away fixtures. Defensively, they have been vulnerable, conceding at least twice in four of their last five matches, and over 2.5 goals have been scored in eight of their 11 league games.

Recent home victories suggest West Ham may be turning a corner under manager Santo, who oversaw back-to-back wins before the international break. The Irons scored three goals against both Newcastle United and Burnley at the London Stadium, bringing them within touching distance of safety. Their thrilling 3-2 win over Burnley in gameweek 11 means they are now only behind the 17th-placed Clarets on goal difference, and a win at Bournemouth could see them climb as high as 14th, depending on other results.

However, West Ham have struggled after international breaks this season, losing all three of their Premier League matches immediately following such pauses—a record unmatched by any other team. Historically, though, the Hammers have had the upper hand against Bournemouth, avoiding defeat in their last eight Premier League meetings and also beating Iraola’s side in the recent Summer Series in the United States.
