Led by Uruguayan star and Brasileirão assist leader Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Flamengo have been the talk of Brazilian football after the 40-year-old first helped the club lift Copa do Brasil honours in 2024, which was the first major piece of silverware of his budding managerial career.

Since then, Flamengo exploded on both the domestic and international fronts, impressing at the 2025 Club World Cup and banking Supercopa do Brasil and Campeonato Carioca honors, only to go on and oust rivals Palmeiras in the Copa Libertadores final last weekend.

Verdão, who were also in action tonight against Atlético Mineiro and secured a 3-0 win, were five points adrift of Flamengo coming into Matchday 37 and looking for a bit of help from Vozão if they were to push for a dramatic table-topping finish on the final day.

With Luis now firmly viewed as one of the brightest managerial talents on the continent, his next chance to guide his side to further honours will come at the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
