Two teams looking to bounce back from recent defeats face off at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as Brentford host Burnley in the Premier League. The Bees will be eager to respond after a narrow 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, while the Clarets arrive in West London following a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea.

Igor Thiago has been a reliable source of goals for Brentford this season, netting his ninth Premier League strike at the AMEX Stadium. However, the Brazilian forward missed a late opportunity to salvage a point, as Bart Verbruggen denied him from the penalty spot in injury time. Thiago’s early penalty had given Brentford the lead before second-half goals from Danny Welbeck and Jack Hinshelwood turned the game in Brighton’s favor.

Back-to-back away defeats to Crystal Palace and Brighton have left Brentford in 13th place, but they remain closer to the top four than the relegation zone—a position that exceeds many pre-season expectations following the summer departures of several key players. Brentford have also enjoyed recent success against Burnley at home, winning their last two meetings, including a 3-0 victory in 2021. The Bees come into Saturday’s match with five wins from their last eight games in all competitions and have suffered just one home defeat this season. Four of their last five matches—and four of their last five encounters with Burnley—have featured over 2.5 goals.

Brentford also boast an impressive record against teams promoted from the Championship, having won each of their last 10 Premier League home games against such sides, scoring at least twice in every match since a loss to Norwich City in November 2021.

Burnley, meanwhile, are struggling for form, having suffered three consecutive Premier League defeats to London clubs West Ham, Arsenal, and Chelsea. During this run, they have conceded seven goals and scored only twice. The defensive solidity that defined their Championship campaign has not translated to the top flight, and Scott Parker’s side sit 19th in the table, just one point from safety.

The Clarets have lost six of their last eight matches in all competitions and have managed just one away win this season. Five of their six Premier League away games have ended in defeat, with each of those matches producing over 2.5 goals. Burnley have conceded exactly three goals in half of their away fixtures, including their most recent trip to West Ham, but have only failed to score once on the road.
