Casemiro: A move to the MLS looms for United superstar

Manchester United’s game against Bournemouth on Monday resembled a boxing match at times, with both sides trading blows, as a thoroughly entertaining encounter ended 4-4.

It was great for the neutrals, not so much for Ruben Amorim , as he saw his team relinquish their lead on three separate occasions.

The lack of control in midfield saw the head coach sub off Casemiro , despite his goal in the first half. He received a caution which will rule him out of next weekend’s clash against Aston Villa .

The Brazilian usually runs out of gas in games, as evidenced by the fact that he has played the full 90 minutes only three times this term.

The 33-year-old has managed to win over Amorim , but not INEOS, who have decided against triggering the one-year extension option in his current deal.

The Red Devils remain open to offering the Brazil international a new deal, but on lower wages, something the former Real Madrid superstar might not agree to.

He is free to agree a new pre-contract with foreign clubs from January, and plenty of Saudi Pro League sides remain interested.

They can offer the five-time Champions League winner bucket loads of cash, but as per The Daily Mail , the defensive midfielder looks to be headed across the Atlantic instead.

The report states that even if United were to offer him a new deal, a move to the MLS (Major League Soccer) seems to be his most likely destination.

“Casemiro is United’s highest earner on £375,000 a week, and the club have so far shown little interest in triggering a one-year extension as they look to drive down the wage bill.

“Unless that situation changes, the Brazil star will be out of contract on June 30 and free to speak to foreign clubs over a summer move in just 16 days’ time.

“One option would be for United to offer Casemiro a new contract on less money, after he re-established himself as a starter alongside Fernandes this season.

“Otherwise, Confidential understands Major League Soccer in the US is emerging as the most likely destination for the former Real Madrid man, who cost United £70m when he arrived from the Bernabeu on a four-year deal in 2022.”

Casemiro has worked hard to establish himself as a starter under Amorim, and losing his experience and winning mentality will be a huge blow.

But the Old Trafford side needs fresh legs, and hopefully, INEOS can find a suitable replacement before letting the midfield stalwart go. Or else, Amorim will be fuming .
