Casemiro to leave Manchester United on free transfer at end of season
Brazilian has spent four years at Old Trafford after move from Real Madrid
Casemiro will leave Manchester United at the end of the season, the club has confirmed.
The Brazilian joined United in 2022 for £60million in Erik ten Hag’s first season at the helm, and has played 146 times for the Red Devils since his arrival.
21 of those have come this term, with the former Real Madrid midfielder scoring four goals in the Premier League this season.
United confirmed that the 33-year-old would depart upon the conclusion of the current campaign, despite having a reported one-year extension clause in his contract.
The Athletic report that the Brazilian needed to start 35 games in the 2025/26 season to automatically earn another year at Old Trafford , and he would have needed to be in the starting lineup for all of United’s remaining 16 games to make that number up, as a result of the club’s early exits in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Casemiro himself confirmed the news on his own social media channels, taking to Instagram to write: “Knowing when stages come to an end.
“Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever.
“Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal.
“Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans. Forever Red Devil.”
Speaking to United’s club website , Casemiro said: “I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life.
“From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.
“It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.
“We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed.”
