Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca sent off for wild celebration after Estevao winner vs Liverpool
Enzo Maresca was shown a red card after celebrating Chelsea's dramatic late winner against Liverpool as Willian Estevao struck in the 95th minute to sink the Premier League champions.
The Italian had already been shown a yellow card for angrily complaining about a VAR check on a Chelsea penalty claim. But that didn't stop him from sprinting up the touchline to celebrate after the Blues made it 2-1 right at the death.
As Maresca, his team and supporters celebrated, Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville pointed out that the Chelsea boss would be given his marching orders "He's been sent off, he won't care about that," Neville said on commentary. "Well worth being sent off for. What a celebration."
"What a moment for him," Neville added. "His team have been outstanding. They've got better and better as the game has gone on."
Neville's Sky Sports colleague, Daniel Sturridge, feels Estevao's dramatic winner is a huge moment for Maresca, who has been questioned in some quarters. The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker said: "You saw what it meant to Chelsea, not just as a group of players but as a management team as well.
"They were under pressure, people were questioning Maresca as a manager. The players have had to deal with a lot of injuries and the start of the season after the Club World Cup wasn't ideal.
"Chelsea will come out of this game understanding that they are capable of putting in performances like that. The next step is to replicate that game after game."
