Liam Rosenior labelled reports linking Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez with a summer move to Paris Saint-Germain as purely ‘speculation’.

Fernandez has notched up eight goals and four assists so far this season in what has been an impressive campaign for the all-action midfielder.

However, recent reports in the French media suggested that the Argentine had become unsettled at Stamford Bridge following the sacking of Enzo Maresca and was considering his future at the club.

PSG are reportedly interested in a move for the 25-year-old, while Real Madrid have also been touted as a potential destination.

But Blues head coach Rosenior said he was paying no attention to the reports ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Pafos on Wednesday.

‘It means nothing to me,’ Rosenior said in his pre-match press conference.

‘When you’re a world-class player, an outstanding player, there’s always going to be speculation that you can’t control.

‘What I’ve said about Enzo on record is the case. He’s been outstanding in the time I’ve worked with him.

‘He’s even surprised me in a good way in terms of what he did on Saturday to be ill, I know it was his birthday, but to be ill and cover the ground that he did, the way that he’s trained and the way that he’s performed.

‘I’m speaking on the realities of the situation, which is he’s a Chelsea player. He’s very, very important to me.

‘And I think we’re going to have a really, really good, hopefully winning relationship moving forward in the short term and the long term.’

Elsewhere, Chelsea look poised to dip into the January transfer market to add defensive reinforcements to Rosenior’s squad.

Reports over the weekend suggest the club have agreed personal terms with young defender Jeremy Jacquet , with Chelsea attempting to strike a deal for around £50million with Rennes for the France Under-21 international.

Rosenior, though, refused to talk about any potential deal, saying: ‘You’ll know about me, I don’t speak about players at other clubs until something is agreed with any player.

‘I think it’s so disrespectful. If I was a manager of another team and a manager was speaking about my player, I wouldn’t be a happy person. So whether it’s true or whether it’s not, I’ll speak about that at the right time.’

Speaking after his side’s 1-1 draw with Le Havre, Rennes head coach Habib Beye urged the club to reject any bids for Jacquet and said the 20-year-old would benefit from staying with the Ligue 1 club for now.

‘‘If tomorrow we were to let him go, we would have to lower our expectations,’ Beye said.

‘When you have offers from such a club, it can make things a little hesitant. I’m very firm on this situation. He is an essential player for us.’

‘The power I have is to talk to him and tell him what I think of him at Stade Rennais, what I think of his development.

‘I know where he wants to go in his career. I think that today, I’m contributing, we’re all contributing as a staff to help him progress, to the point where he’s now being targeted by his best clubs.

‘In five months, he’ll be even more accomplished, and so, [if he stays] it can be beneficial for everyone, for the club, for Jeremy, and for the club that might come looking for him.’
