Chelsea flop Alvaro Morata asks to be subbed after clash with ex-Premier League star

A furious Alvaro Morata demanded a substitution after clashing with ex- Everton star Yerry Mina over the weekend. The former Chelsea man was in action for Italian side Como as they took on Cagliari in Serie A.

And it turned into a frustrating afternoon for the Spaniard after failing to get on the scoresheet in their 0-0 draw. There was then a bizarre incident between him and Mina during the second-half of the game.

After bumping into the defender, Morata saw Mina dramatically fall to the floor and roll around. The striker was subsequently shown a yellow card by the referee, a decision that did not go down particularly well.

He immediately gestured to the bench that he wanted to be taken off of the pitch, while he continued to remonstrate with the referee. It did not take long for Morata’s wish to be granted as he was subsequently replaced by fellow striker Anastasios Douvikas.

Mina appears to have cheekily fired a jibe at Morata as he shared an image of the pair on Instagram alongside the caption: “An important spot outside the house. Let’s stick together.”

Morata, now 33, only joined Como in the summer on loan from AC Milan but is yet to find the net in any of his 13 appearances in all competitions. Since leaving Chelsea, the Spanish striker can count Atletico Madrid, Juventus , and Galatasaray among his employers.

Como boss Cesc Fabregas gave his verdict on his side’s performance against Cagliari and claims that they need to be more ruthless. He said: “We’re still at the beginning, but the team is growing,.

“We’re conceding fewer goals, the players believe in what we’re doing, and the young ones keep stepping up. There are still moments where we can do better – especially in games like Bologna, Genoa and Cremonese.”

“We need to shoot more,” Fabregas added. “But we’re working on how we attack. I see a complete squad, and now I want us to be more dominant.”

“If we want to be up there, we must win and not lose. To make the Napoli point count, we have to beat Cagliari.”

Como currently sit seventh in Serie A under Fabregas, having won four out of their opening 11 games of the season. Their next game pits them against Torino away from home after the November international break.
