The Premier League has announced that Anthony Taylor will officiate the upcoming all-London clash between Chelsea and Arsenal this weekend. Sunday's match will see the Blues welcome the Gunners to Stamford Bridge, with both teams currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table.
Arsenal are coming off a resounding 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby, thanks to a hat-trick from Eberechi Eze. Leandro Trossard was also on the score sheet for Mikel Arteta's side at the Emirates Stadium.
Chelsea also bagged three points last weekend with a 2-0 triumph over Burnley , a win that propelled them to second place in the league, six points adrift of Arsenal.
As the Premier League action resumes this weekend, the two clubs will face off at Stamford Bridge, with Taylor confirmed as the referee for the encounter. He will be assisted by Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn, while John Brooks will be handling VAR duties from Stockley Park, reports football.london .
So far this season, Taylor has refereed one match each for Arsenal and Chelsea, both of which ended in victories for the respective clubs.
Chelsea secured a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in October, where Taylor was the man in the middle as Moises Caicedo and Estevao Willian found the back of the net in the victory over the reigning Premier League champions.
During that match, Taylor dismissed penalty appeals from Chelsea after Alejandro Garnacho was brought down in the box by Dominik Szoboszlai.
VAR reviewed the incident and upheld the on-field decision of no penalty, with head coach Enzo Maresca also being shown a yellow card for his objections to the decision.
Taylor was also the referee for Arsenal's 1-0 victory over Fulham last month, which was secured by a second-half goal from Trossard .
The match saw Taylor award a penalty after Bukayo Saka was deemed to have been fouled by Fulham defender Kevin.
However, following a VAR review, the penalty decision was reversed by Taylor after he was directed to consult the pitch-side monitor.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea are in Champions League action in midweek, with the Blues taking on Barcelona at Stamford Bridge and Arsenal hosting Bayern Munich in North London.
