Chelsea are plotting to gradually reintegrate Axel Disasi into the first-team squad - with the French defender impressing behind the scenes this season.

The 27-year-old was given the green light to leave the Blues during the summer transfer window, but a move for the centre-back never came to fruition.

Disasi was subsequently told he was surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and was training separately from the senior squad at the club's Cobham base.

However, Disasi led the Blues' Under-21s to a 4-1 victory against Reading last weekend, sparking speculation about a potential return to the senior squad.

Mirror Football understands that this was part of a plan to boost his fitness levels, as the Frenchman had not made a competitive appearance this season prior to that match.

Chelsea are now considering bringing Disasi back into the first-team fold over time, having acknowledged his impressive contributions and positive influence on the younger players behind the scenes.

When asked about Disasi and Raheem Sterling , who finds himself in a similar situation, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has consistently stated they are not part of the first-team plans moving forward.

The perception of Disasi has shifted somewhat due to his conduct. Whether he'll be included in Chelsea's squad for the Premier League match against Burnley following the international break is yet to be determined, but the intention is to gradually reintegrate him, particularly considering his current fitness levels, reports Football London .

Disasi joined Stamford Bridge from Monaco in the summer of 2023 for just under £40million. The French player has made 61 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions since his arrival over two years ago.
