“Complete player”: Bruno Guimaraes raves about “idol” Casemiro amid resurgence

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has heaped praise on Manchester United star Casemiro , branding him an “idol” and an example for others.

Up until a few weeks ago, it seemed a foregone conclusion that Casemiro’s time at United was on the brink of coming to an end.

He is in the final year of his contract and the overwhelming expectation was that he would be released as a free agent at the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign. However, Casemiro’s drastic uptick in form has now opened the door to a possible extended stay at the club.

The five-time Champions League winner has been crucial to United’s five-game unbeaten streak, scoring against Brighton and Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest.

Ruben Amorim has repeatedly spoken glowingly of Casemiro’s contributions to the team. His outstanding displays have extended to the international stage ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

He scored a superb goal as Brazil beat Senegal last weekend.

Guimaraes spoke to Globo Esporte and lauded Casemiro’s impact on his career and Brazilian football in general.

Asked why he rates Casemiro so highly, the Newcastle enforcer said, “Experience, titles… he’s a complete player.”

“His career speaks for itself. In one of my first interviews with the national team, in 2020, when I arrived they asked if I was inspired by anyone in midfield, and I said his name, Casemiro .”

“He’s also an idol there for everything he’s done, especially at Real Madrid, the five Champions League titles. A guy that everyone who plays in Brazilian midfield talks about, Casemiro is the guy we have to follow.”

“So I think it’s a bit of everything, he’s a leader, certainly playing there as a number 8 is a position where I feel more comfortable, it’s a position I also play at Newcastle.”

“I think it’s a perfect match and things are starting to go well.”

Casemiro and United are next in action on Monday evening when they welcome David Moyes’ Everton to Old Trafford.
