Cristiano Ronaldo's yellow card against Slovakia has been overturned
Cristiano Ronaldo , international for the Portuguese national soccer team, has been sanctioned by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee with a one-match ban - which he has already served in the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Armenia - and two more, but conditional on his behavior.
Therefore, Cristiano Ronaldo will play the first match of the 2026 World Cup, as long as he does not commit another disciplinary offence.
Cristiano was sent off against Ireland in Dublin on 13 November , having never before been sent off with a straight red card in his 226 matches with the senior national team.
In the match between Ireland and Portugal, Cristiano was sent off after an assault on Irish defender Dara O'Shea by Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg, who first showed him a yellow card but then showed him the red after consulting the VAR.
