EFL weekend: managers under strain and a Bristolian reunion

Two league games before Christmas, and pressure mounts on EFL bosses Marti Cifuentes, John Mousinho and Ryan Mason.

BBC UK highlights five storylines to watch across the divisions this weekend.

Leicester could face a 2024-25 deduction under Premier League PSR. Ipswich are up to fourth with one defeat in their past 10, while the Foxes have three home league wins from nine, only one in their last seven. They meet on Saturday, 15:00 GMT.

Portsmouth’s injuries are piling up and form has dipped. A 1-0 loss at Swansea on Tuesday left them two points off safety before hosting Blackburn on Saturday, 15:00 GMT, and Mousinho urged his side to carry the positives.

West Brom rallied from 3-0 down at Southampton on Tuesday but still fell short. Aune Heggebo has six in six after one in his previous 14. Mason’s side host Sheffield United on Friday, 20:00, with the Blades scoring 14 in five.

Stockport aim to be the first to hand Stevenage successive losses this season on Saturday, 15:00 GMT. Stevenage’s defence is the EFL’s best, with 12 conceded in 17, while Stockport have scored three since the start of November.

Nine straight defeats, yet Bristol Rovers sit a point above the bottom two. After a 4-0 loss at Barnet, Darrell Clarke apologised and vowed to fight on. Next, Swindon, managed by Ian Holloway.
