Family of teen ex Premier League academy goalie killed by train pay tribute

The family of a young talented footballer who tragically died said they will "miss him forever".

Joshua Travis, 14, was said to have an "energy for life" and "so much love to give".

The teen was killed when he was hit by a train in Nottinghamshire, sparking an outpouring of tributes, including words from his former club.

The British Transport Police said officers were called out to Burton Joyce, east of Nottingham, at around 7pm Wednesday following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Police confirmed the former Nottingham Forest academy goalkeeper was pronounced dead at the scene. Joshua's heartbroken family have now paid an emotional tribute to their 14-year-old.

In a statement they said: "Josh was a lad with an incredibly (sic) energy for life, an infectious and mischievous smile, kind sparkling eyes, and so much love to give.

"He leaves a gap in our lives that is and will always be impossible to fill, and we will miss him forever."

Joshua's former football club, Nottingham Forest, also issued a statement following his tragic death, saying: "Everyone at Nottingham Forest is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our former academy goalkeeper Josh Travis. Our thoughts are with Josh's family and friends at this extremely difficult time."

Another heartfelt tribute was made by Aspire FC coaching, where Travis was part of the Under-15s team. The coaching school said: "With the blessing of his parents, everybody at Aspire FC is devastated to post surrounding the passing of our Under-15 goalkeeper Josh Travis.

"Josh was a fantastic goalkeeper and a great character in the group. Everybody that came across Josh described him as a pleasure to have around with his polite and funny nature.

"Josh made a real impact in his age group, both as a footballer but more importantly as a person and will be sorely missed at the club. Aspire have decided to postpone games this weekend to pay respects to Josh and his family at such a tragic time. We as a club pass on our sincere condolences to Josh's friends and family."
