England World Cup tickets are being sold on resale sites for a vast mark up on their eyewatering face value - with boxes for group games going for more than £100,000.
Fans reacted with outrage this week when FIFA opened the ballot for the tournament, being held in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Group stage tickets are up to three times the prices of those for Qatar in 2022 while the cheapest official ticket for the final will cost £3,119 if you are lucky enough to buy through the FIFA site.
Despite the outcry FIFA boasted there had been five million requests for tickets made since the latest ticketing phase opened. This demand will mean most fans miss out on buying a ticket through official channels, leading them to secondary sites as their only way on ensuring a seat.

The FA has said it will contact FIFA to relay fans’ concerns after it was asked to lobby the world governing body to lower the official prices.
But there’s worse to come as many tickets have already found their way onto resale site Ticombo - with category 1 ticket for the final at the MetLife stadium in New Jersey - originally on sale for £5,915 - now listed at £80,550.

A Champions Club ticket for the Three Lions second match against Ghana on June 23 is on sale for £53,383 while a VIP lounge will again set you back £100,706.

FIFA has admitted it is powerless to stop people secondary selling tickets in the US and Canada because neither country has any laws to stop it.
Fans’ organisation Football Supporters Europe and campaign group Euroconsumers have written a joint letter to FIFA urging it to step in and stop ticket profiteering at the tournament.
The organisation said: “The fact that scalping is legal doesn’t mean FIFA must become the scalper. The World Cup is not a commercial product like any other – it is a global cultural event that depends on the passion, loyalty, and inclusion of ordinary fans.
“We fear that fans will continue to feel excluded and exploited by a pricing model that fails to reflect the spirit of the World Cup.”
Former Spurs defender Ramon Vega said: “The World Cup ticket prices are truly outrageous! It’s not only very costly for European fans, but I also feel great sympathy for fans from other parts of the world, such as those from African countries with much lower incomes who will find it impossible to support their nations.
“These fans are the heart and foundation of the beautiful game! It’s no longer a people’s game! It has become a game for the 1% elite population! The beautiful game has turned into an ugly greedy game!”
The Football Supporters Association has said: “We back Football Supporters Europe in calling for a halt in ticket sales and we are calling on the Football Association to work with fellow FAs to directly challenge these disgraceful prices..
“We call on all national associations to stand up for your supporters, without whom there would be no professional game.”
The Free Lions, The Football Supporters’ Association’s Fans’ Embassy service for travelling England fans, said: “We have been concerned about pricing for participating nations for months now and have been raising these concerns with Football Supporters Europe and our FA.
“The early trends were worrying and it is devastating to see those concerns turn into reality with the release of England’s prices for the World Cup.”
