Five managers who could replace Daniel Farke if Leeds United owners sack manager

Leeds United suffered their fifth defeat in six Premier League games on Sunday. A 2-1 home loss against Aston Villa saw the team fall into the relegation zone and pile more pressure on manager Daniel Farke.

There has been speculation over the long-term future of the German at Elland Road since before the season began . Despite him leading the club to promotion from the Championship last season, there have been questions over his Premier League credentials.

Of his 61 games in charge of a club in the league, he has registered just nine wins, drawn ten games and suffered 42 losses.

The loss against Villa has seen speculation over Farke’s position at Leeds start again. The decision that the club’s hierarchy take could come down to finding a possible replacement.

With that in mind, here’s a look at five potential candidates for the role at Elland Road if the club decide to make a change...

The former Leeds assistant manager has been linked with a return to Elland Road amid speculation over the future of Farke. Corberan is currently managing La Liga side Valencia.

He has had previous managerial experience in England with Huddersfield Town and West Bromwich Albion.

The manager has had some difficulty at Valencia this season. The team sit in 15th place in La Liga, having won three and drawn four of their opening 13 games of the campaign.

Valencia did, however, come out as 1-0 winners over Levante in their last outing on Friday night.

With Corberan being in a job, it would take compensation to bring him to Leeds. How much that would be is unknown.

Unlike Corberan, Rose is out of work, meaning that compensation won’t be needed. The German has been out of a job since leaving RB Leipzig back in March. He is among the favourites to take over from Farke if a change is made, especially considering his past association with the club’s part-owners.

Rose has previously managed Borussia Monchengladbach, and Borussia Dortmund as well as Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg.

A lack of experience in English football could be a factor that Leeds owners take into account.

If experience and success in the Premier League is a factor, then Leeds could potentially turn to Brendan Rodgers. The Northern Irishman almost led Liverpool to the Premier League title and helped Leicester City to win the FA Cup and qualify for European football during his time at the club.

Things did, however, end badly in both jobs, with him eventually getting the sack. Rodgers is currently without a club after leaving Celtic in October.

He also has previous experience as manager of Watford, Reading and Swansea as well as Liverpool, Celtic and Leicester.

Another name to be previously linked with Leeds when talk over Farke’s future first started, Motta is without a club after leaving Juventus in March after less than a year with the Italian giants.

He got that job following success in leading Bologna to Champions League qualification the previous season.

It has previously been reported by The Athletic that Motta models his teams on the style of former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa. That is something that will go down well at Elland Road, should they make a change.

If Leeds want to go down the Premier League experience route, they could look toward Postecoglou. Like most of the names, he is currently out of work after a short spell with Nottingham Forest. His brand of attacking football may be appealing to the club, with it being more in the mould of Bielsa, but it may take a while for him to implement that.
