Guessand Joins Villa in €35m Shock Move from Nice

Evann Guessand (24) has completed a move from formative club OGC Nice to Aston Villa .

Speaking after the final game of the Ligue 1 season in May, Franck Haise was pessimistic about the club’s chances of retaining Guessand. With limited funds, Get French Football News understands that Nice were even looking to sell, in order to fund a renewal of the playing squad.

In late July, Haise reaffirmed his belief that Guessand would not be part of his plans for the upcoming season, stating that there was a “90% chance” that he would leave. It has taken a while, but Guessand has finally got his move.

He leaves Nice having come through their academy. He made 109 appearances for Le Gym, scoring 21 goals. His final season at the Allianz Riviera was comfortably his most prolific as he was named the club’s Player of the Season. He joins Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee, which L’Équipe believes to be around €35m. The length of his contract has not been disclosed either.
