Incoming Chelsea striker continues rise as major new milestone hit
Future Blues signing rewarded for fine form ahead of Stamford Bridge switch
Future Chelsea striker Emanuel Emegha has received a first senior call-up to the Netherlands squad.
Chelsea agreed to sign Emegha from sister club Strasbourg in September, with the player due to arrive at Cobham next summer following a final season in France.
Now, after scoring six goals and registering two assists in his first eight games of the season for Strasbourg , Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman has selected Emegha for important World Cup qualifiers against Poland and Lithuania.
The Netherlands sit top of Group G ahead of their final two qualifiers, three points above Poland. Koeman has added Emegha to his squad due to former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst dealing with a knock.
A statement from the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) read: “Ronald Koeman has added Emmanuel Emegha to the squad in Zeist. The striker's call-up is due to Wout Weghorst's physical condition. The Ajax player is not fully fit, and the coming days will determine his availability for [the Poland game].”
Last season, former Dutch Under-21 international Emegha scored 14 goals and provided three assists in 27 Ligue 1 appearances for Liam Rosenior’s Strasbourg , where he is captain, earning a move to Chelsea .
