James Maddison reserved special praise for two Manchester United players after the impressive 4-1 victory over Wolves .

Ruben Amorim ’s side got back to winning ways in emphatic style as they brushed aside bottom-placed Wolves at Molineux .

Captain Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring midway through the first half but Wolves equalised on the stroke of half-time through Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

Bryan Mbeumo restored United’s lead shortly after the break before Mason Mount put the game to bed with a crisp finish.

Fernandes scored his second and United’s fourth late on to inflict a 13th defeat from 15 games on Wolves.

While Rob Edwards’ side remain bottom on just two points, Manchester United climb up to sixth in the Premier League , one point outside the Champions League places.

‘Bruno was at the heart of everything tonight,’ Maddison said on Sky Sports . ‘He’s such a top player.

‘I actually think Bruno’s underrated. I know he gets his plaudits but I think he’s underrated for the consistency he shows regularly. Every time he is on the ball, he can just see it all.’

Speaking directly to his friend Mount, Maddison added: ‘I haven’t got a question but I just wanted to say I thought you were brilliant tonight.

‘There were so many touches of class – you look like you’re back to your best. You’re such a great guy off the pitch as well so it’s a pleasure to see you playing like that.’

Mount was ‘very happy’ to contribute to Manchester United’s win, which leaves the Red Devils level on points with Mount’s former club Chelsea.

‘It was an important win for us,’ Mount said.

‘Obviously, first half we let them back in it before half-time and we go into the changing room frustrated and disappointed with the end to the first half.

‘The manager had a few things to say and we come out there and it was down to us to attack with purpose and finish our chances we were creating.

‘We’re happy with the second half, parts of the first half as well. Overall, very happy with that.’

Asked whether he too felt he was ‘back to his best’ following a stuttering start to his Manchester United career, Mount added: ‘Anytime I play I obviously want to play to the best of my ability and perform.

‘I’ve had setbacks. I’ve had difficult times, I feel now I’m ready to keep pushing on and building on these performances.

‘Getting in the goals, that’s the most important thing as a forward player and just keep going and working hard. That’s exactly what I’m focusing on now.’

Manchester United are involved in another Monday night fixture next week, with struggling Bournemouth making the trip to Old Trafford.
