Jamie Carragher believes Arne Slot is 'now under pressure' at Liverpool following Saturday's drab 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest . Speculation has increased around Slot's future with the Reds falling down to 11th in the Premier League table after a dozen matches.

They started the season with five successive victories in the top flight, beating Bournemouth , Newcastle United, Arsenal , Burnley and Everton . However, the Reds' form has been dire in recent weeks, losing SIX of their last seven in the league - a run of form that has seen them drop into the bottom half.

While Liverpool have won three in four in the Champions League , the Reds did also crash out of the Carabao Cup with a 3-0 defeat against Crystal Palace at Anfield. It has been a torrid time for Slot, who has come under more pressure with the reigning champions losing as many top-flight matches as they have won this season.

"Obviously the manager is the one in the firing line," Carragher said on Monday Night Football . "Any manager with results like that, if they were part of the bottom four or a promoted team would be under pressure

"There's no doubt the manager is under pressure now with results like that on the back of being champions, but also the fact of what Liverpool spent in the summer."

Slot was appointed as Jurgen Klopp's successor at Liverpool last summer and guided the Reds to the Premier League title during his first season on Merseyside. However, despite a £400million-plus worth of investment in the transfer window, Liverpool have appeared to regress.

During his criticism of Liverpool, Carragher called out Mohamed Salah and believes the Reds forward should "come out and speak for the team", instead of captain Virgil van Dijk.

Carragher cited that Salah often came out and spoke about his contract situation last season, but claimed that he has decided to remain silent with the Reds going through a difficult run of form.

"I think Virgil van Dijk, after the game, has come out again and spoke as he should do as the captain and called Liverpool a mess. I must say on the back of all these Liverpool defeats it's always Van Dijk who comes out.

"And as I have said, the captain should do that but there should be other players in that dressing room coming out and speaking for the club.

"A year ago this weekend, Mo Salah wasn't shy in coming out and speaking about his own situation, about the club not offering him a contract.

"I only ever hear Salah speak when he gets man of the match or he needs a new contract.

"I would like to see Salah come out as one of the leaders, one the legends of Liverpool, come out and speak for the team. It shouldn't always be the captain."
