Jamie Carragher has explained why he made some of the points he did in his rant about Mohamed Salah . Carragher, speaking on Monday Night Football , called Salah’s explosive post-match comments after Saturday’s draw against Leeds United “a disgrace” and questioned whether the forward will play for the club again.
However, despite his frustrations with Salah, Carragher does not want to see the Liverpool legend's time at the club end in such a way. He has now also responded to a claim that he took some "unnecessary jibes" at the Egypt international.
Taking to X, talkSPORT host Hugh Woozencroft wrote: “Agreed with a lot of this [Carragher's words], but there were some unnecessary jibes. Mentioning how much he's been paid & how he was seen before he got to Liverpool - as if HE should be grateful. He earned his money without question & Liverpool hadn't won a league title for almost 3 decades.”
But responding, Carragher said: “They weren’t jibes, you & others have completely missed the point, which was no matter how good you are we all need help from the club, players & fans to be successful. He’s been amazing for LFC & LFC have been amazing for him. Which I was just reminding him.”
Speaking about Salah's interview on Monday Night Football ahead of Manchester United ’s 4-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Carragher said: “I thought it was a disgrace what he did after the game.
“Some people have painted it as an emotional outburst – I don’t think it was. I think whenever Mo Salah stops in a mixed zone, which he has done four times in eight years at Liverpool, it’s choreographed with his agent to cause maximum damage and strengthen his own position.
“He’s chosen this weekend to do this now, and he’s waited I think for a bad result…everyone involved with the club (feeling) like they’re in the gutter, and he’s chosen that time to go for the manager and maybe try to get him sacked.”
Before he added: “What he’s done off the pitch, I think the club have made the right decision in terms of him not going abroad. Whether he will play for Liverpool again, I don’t know.
“I hope he does, because he’s one of the greatest players we’ve ever had, but if you continue like that, and statements like that, if he doesn’t play, who knows.”
Salah has been omitted from the Liverpool squad to take on Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The Anfield club have chosen to remove Salah from the squad for a short period, with the decision taken by the club in consultation with and with the full support of head coach Arne Slot .

It’s believed the Reds regard a brief period away from selection being in the best interests of the club, the squad and the player at the moment. Salah, though, has not been disciplined by the club with the decision related solely to squad selection.
In an interview with Amazon Prime, Reds boss Slot refused to confirm if Salah will return to his squad for this weekend’s Premier League game against Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield. He said: “We are here for (the) Inter Milan game.
"And I think you can understand that the last two days there were already a lot of things going on after conceding in the last minute against Leeds. Not for the first time this season then what happened afterwards so I think you can understand that my full focus is now on Inter Milan and we will see what the future is.”
