Jamie Vardy becomes first Englishman to win Serie A Player of the Month

Cremonese striker Jamie Vardy has been named as the EA Sports Serie A Player of the Month for November , becoming the first English player to win the award since its introduction in 2019.

Vardy beat AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez, Napoli’s David Neres, Roma’s Nico Zaniolo and Genoa’s Leo Ostigard to the award.

The English forward played every minute of Cremonese’s four league games last month, helping the club earn six points.

His best display came in the 3-1 win at Bologna, netting twice to help Cremonese register their third league away win this term.

At 38, Vardy showed that his predatory instinct is still razor-sharp. He peeled away from Bologna’s defensive line to score his first and quickly got ahead of his marker to bag his brace.

The former Leicester City man has enjoyed a bright start at Cremonese , netting four goals in 10 games.

He is the oldest player to score for Grigiorossi in the Italian top-flight and the first Englishman to score for the club in the competition.

Also, Vardy is only the second player to score at least three goals in a Serie A season after turning 38 for a newly promoted side, following Gianfranco Zola , who netted nine for Cagliari in 2004/05.

Head coach Davide Nicola has hailed the veteran striker as a ‘role model’ and will be hoping that he can help the club maintain their top-flight status.

Cremonese are currently ninth on the standings, having garnered 20 points from 14 games.
