Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr injury update for Crystal Palace vs Man City

Crystal Palace are hopeful that Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr will return from injury for their Premier League game against Manchester City on Sunday.

Mateta and Sarr were left out of the squad for Palace’s 3-0 win against Shelbourne in the UEFA Conference League in Dublin on Thursday night.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner revealed before the game that Mateta was rested for that game due to a knee injury.

‘JP also needs to rest. He came back with a minor injury from the French national team, and we had to manage his knee the whole time,’ Glasner revealed this week.

Sarr, meanwhile, was forced off with an ankle ligament injury in the first half of Palace’s 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United on November 30 and has missed his side’s last three matches.

The 27-year-old is also due to play at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal ’s campaign beginning against Botswana on December 23.

‘All the players should be fine, then we hope JP and Ismaila Sarr are available for the game,’ Glasner said on Friday.

‘Of course, we need to train with them and see if there is any reaction but it looks good and looks okay right now and will give us a little bit more option. It’s important to have these options against City.

‘We trained after arrival [on Friday] with the players who didn’t play many minutes yesterday and of course we had JP and Isma [Sarr], all the others will do their recovery at home.’

Elsewhere, Palace are set to be without Daniel Munoz for at least four weeks as he requires knee surgery.

‘The prognosis is four to six weeks. Then he should be ready to play,’ Glasner said this week.

‘But again, always when you have to undergo the surgery, you never know. I had a few in my career, that’s why I’m always a little bit cautious.

‘But it doesn’t look too serious.’

In Munoz’s absence, Nathaniel Clyne started at right wing-back in Palace’s 2-1 win over Fulham last weekend and was brought on as a second-half substitute in the victory over Shelbourne.
