Konate ‘happy’ at Liverpool despite contract concerns

Ibrahima Konate has insisted he is ‘happy’ at Liverpool despite no public progress on a new contract.

Konate’s current contract expires in the summer with Real Madrid among the clubs reportedly keen on signing the centre-back.

Liverpool lost Trent Alexander-Arnold to the Spanish side after his deal ran down last season and there are fears that Konate could follow his former teammate to La Liga. Real Madrid , or other European clubs, can approach Konate about a pre-contract agreement in January.

Despite a dip in form this season, Konate has been a key part of Liverpool’s success since signing from RB Leipzig in 2021. He’s made 148 appearances in all competitions, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cup trophies.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed Liverpool are set to submit a final proposal to Konate’s camp in the coming weeks.

Discussing his future, Konate has said he is ‘happy’ at Liverpool but that he ‘can’t say anything’ as things stand.

“It’s clear we think about it… but what’s complicated is that we can’t say everything because there’s a lot of things being said in the media and sometimes I see things and I’m like, oh my god, and it gets me into trouble with the Liverpool fans even though they don’t know all the ins and outs,” he told telefoot .

“Anyway, I hope and I know that in any case the most important thing is that I’m happy.”
