Liverpool and Man Utd discover Antoine Semenyo release clause as January transfer 'accepted'

Antoine Semenyo is said to have a £65million release clause in his Bournemouth contract, which could leave Liverpool and Manchester United licking their lips. After finding himself linked with both clubs this summer, Semenyo committed his future to the Cherries.

However, despite signing a new deal which should keep him at the Vitality Stadium until 2030, he could find himself on the move as early as January due to a breaking new revelation. As per The Athletic , the Ghanaian's new contract holds a £65m release clause, which any club can trigger, meaning that Bournemouth may have to 'accept' that his future is out of their hands.

The report also details how Semenyo was valued at around £70m this summer, with his release clause allowing interested parties to secure his services for marginally cheaper come January. However, it is also claimed that Liverpool or United - or any other suitors for that matter - will have to activate his clause by a certain date to allow the Cherries to find a replacement.

It comes as Semenyo recently dismissed claims that he was keen on parting ways with his current club. When pressed by Jamie Redknapp about his future recently, the Ghana international responded: "I don't think about it too much.

"I try to stay present as much as I can. You see the news all the time, I see it as well, I'm not oblivious, but I try to keep focused.

"I'm enjoying my football here. If I'm not scoring goals, all of that goes away. I try to stay present, do the best I can for the team, score goals and whatever happens in the future happens.

"When they [his former team-mates] all left [in the summer], there was a lot of interest and back and forth with the club. But I knew in my head that the manager's got something up his sleeve this year.

"How we finished off the season last year was so good and we could continue, especially with the players we've bought in as well. I wasn't too sure at the start but we've kicked on like a house on fire. I'm glad I committed to staying here because I'm enjoying every moment."

After bagging an impressive tally of 13 goals across all competitions last season, Semenyo found himself at the heart of speculation surrounding a transfer to United or Liverpool, while Tottenham also showed an interest. In the end, United snapped up Bryan Mbeumo , Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko , while Liverpool welcomed the likes of Florian Wirtz , Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike .

Spurs also snapped up Mohammed Kudus in a £55m deal with West Ham United . However, with six Premier League goals to his name this term thus far, the clubs could once again register an interest in the 25-year-old when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Despite spending big this summer, Arne Slot has failed to inspire performances from Liverpool this season, with the defending Premier League champions languishing at eighth in the table at present with six wins and five losses from their opening 11 outings.

And while Manchester United have started to come in good as of recent under the stewardship of Ruben Amorim , questions still remain with regards to the suitability of Sesko as a sole striker given his age and lack of top flight experience.

Elsewhere, Spurs may sit fifth in the Premier League standings, but with Semenyo holding a lead of two goals on their top-scorer in Richarlison at present, they may be open to the idea of bringing in the Bournemouth sensation as an upgrade.
