Stephen Warnock has warned Arne Slot that he will be under pressure if he fails to turn around Liverpool's fortunes. But the former Reds defender believes he has enough credit to be afforded time at Anfield.

The Reds' fell further off the Premier League title race after Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest . They are three points off the Champions League places and a further six off leaders Arsenal . Slot's side have lost six out of their last seven in all competitions and the 3-0 disappointment at the hands of Forest was the second successive defeat by that scoreline after losing to Manchester City .

Liverpool are back in Champions League action in midweek against PSV Eindhoven but they will return to Premier League action on Sunday looking to refind their confidence with encounters against West Ham , Sunderland and Leeds United on the horizon.

Warnock doesn't believe Slot's role is currently under threat.

He said via WhichBookie : "No, no I don't [think he's at risk]. I know there has been a lot of talk on social media from fans but I think with everything that has gone on over the summer, the new influx of players that have come into the football club, I think he's got enough in the bank to turn things around.

"It's a difficult job, if you lose games, it's always tough and it's always trying to find solutions, you have to make big decisions along the way but I don't see him getting sacked anytime soon.

"However, if you go on to lose your next five it does become difficult."

Liverpool stars including Mohamed Salah have endured a torrid time during their title defence, whilst Ibrahima Konate has failed to reach the standards he previously set amid a troubling dip in form.

Warnock, who made 67 appearances for the Reds, made a worrying admission that there has been an absence of fight within the Liverpool squad.

"There's always an element of both things [heeding the slump and players not performing]," he added.

"There's always an element that the players can do more, I come back to decision making, does he need to make better decisions? I was quite critical against Forest, Salah hadn't had an impact on the game and I thought, 'why is he keeping him on for so long?'

"He's got that ability to change the game within an instant but so have other players and that will come with a little bit of unrest from the bench and players are thinking, 'when am I going to get my chance? How do I get my chance when you're not willing to take a player off?' But you go back to what Salah's done, he's got enough credit in the bank but it's a difficult one.

"My biggest thing with the team at the minute is that it looks like it's losing a fight, they're never fighting for much within the game.

"If you look at Aston Villa and Real Madrid , they outfought, outmuscled them in all the battles but in the games after that, the Man City game, they're too soft.
