Max Eberl has implied that Bayern Munich are working on a new contract for Dayot Upamecano - even if the defender's agent is now likely to be fielding interest from other clubs amid links to Liverpool .

The Reds and Chelsea are among the Premier League clubs who have been credited with an interest in Upamecano , whose contract expires at the end of the season. That means the 27-year-old is able to negotiate with foreign clubs as soon as January ahead of a potential free transfer next summer.

Upamecano is an integral part of the Bayern Munich team which chalked up a record 16th consecutive win to maintain their perfect start to the new season against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday night. And Eberl , the German champions' sporting director, has made it clear that the club will not give up the France international defender's services without a fight.

"It’s normal if other clubs are calling his agents, it’s part of the game," Eberl said after PSG match. "I’ve already said that we want to do our best and get new contract done. We are on it."

Eberl's comments come hot on the heels of an interview he did with Sky Germany last month where he claimed Bayern were doing "everything we can" to convince Upamecano to sign a new contract.

Liverpool are expected to try and bolster their defence after missing out on a deal for Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi on the final day of the summer transfer window. They have since lost Giovanni Leoni, a summer signing from Parma, for the season after the youngster tore his ACL in September.

Like Upamecano, Guehi is also expected to move on a free transfer next summer with Oliver Glasner confirming the Crystal Palace captain will not be signing a new contract.

However, Liverpool are not the only club pursuing both he and Upamecano, who have suitors elsewhere in Europe. Real Madrid have been linked with both defenders, while Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest in Upamecano.

Vincent Kompany has also expressed a desire to see Upamecano sign a new contract with Bayern Munich despite interest from elsewhere, saying: "I always see my players as slightly better than everyone else. Dayot Upamecano is an absolutely important part of our team.

"We have very clearly defined roles in our club. It’s not just me who makes the decision."

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
