Liverpool told they CAN still win the league as Arsenal icon and Graeme Souness disagree

Liverpool icon Graeme Souness has claimed that his old side is still capable of winning the Premier League this season, despite the gap building at the top. The Reds have endured a tough campaign so far, despite their title defence starting with five wins in a row.
There were worrying signs in those opening games, however, as late wins and chaotic matches set the tone for how the rest of the fixtures have played out so far. With six defeats in their last seven Premier League encounters, pressure is being piled on Arne Slot to turn their form around.
The latest defeat came on Liverpool's return from the November international break, with Nottingham Forest putting the Reds to the sword at Anfield . Goals from Murillo, Nicolo Savona, and Morgan Gibbs-White summed up a miserable afternoon for Slot, as the problems continue to pile up.
With Liverpool now down in 11th in the Premier League, a gap of 11 points to league leaders Arsenal has opened up, creating a chasm that could be too large to close. While some are questioning whether the Reds can find some form again, Souness believes that his former side can still win the title.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, he said: "Anything can happen in our league. I have worked in big leagues abroad, and I tell you, our league is by far the most demanding league anywhere. Big clubs don’t get a rest. So it’s still very much on for three or four teams, and I have to include Liverpool, because I know the way the crowd react there. They won’t give up on the team.”
Arsenal icon Martin Keown disagreed with Souness, as he said: "In ‘81 you lost seven games, you won 26. You won five titles by the way, and you were winning them back-to-back, it was a different Liverpool perhaps then. You’ve already lost six games this year."
Souness responded and said: "Martin, you’ve been around the block several times, you know there’s madness in football. Anything can happen.” To which Keown said: "They’ll have to win virtually every game this season…"
However, the former Liverpool man didn't want to count them out, as he said: "I’m not a betting man, I wouldn’t bet on them, but I think it would be mad to bet against them unless you’re a really keen gambler. Football is full of surprises, that’s why it’s the most loved, most watched, most interesting sport in the world for me.”

Given the poor run of form, Slot has taken responsibility for the recent struggles, but he has also outlined where he believes the problems may lie. Speaking to the press after Liverpool's defeat to Nottingham Forest , he said: "It is my responsibility. If we win or lose, it is my responsibility.
"But what I also see is the team and, by the way, our fans as well stay until the end, support the team until the end and the players keep on trying until the end. What I also saw today, but it wasn't at [Manchester] City - and at City we are not the only team that struggles in the first half - and in every other game we've played, we've been the dominant team and we were able to create chances.
"Like I said, lately it is almost constantly that we miss our chances and then ones go in that we concede, but that will never continue throughout the whole season. We need to have that moment of energy of scoring a goal."
In every one of their Premier League defeats so far this season, Liverpool have failed to take the lead in the game, showing just how crucial it is that they score first. With a forward line that isn't quite clicking, and a defensive unit that is more porous this campaign, it's a nightmare combination to find a solution for.
Slot has a favourable run of fixtures coming up in the Premier League, however, that could help to turn things around for him and his side. Clashes with West Ham , Sunderland , and Leeds United await them in the next few weeks, which could get that winning feeling back at Liverpool.
