Liverpool's 'secret Jamie Carragher meeting' as Mohamed Salah's team-mates 'irritated'

Liverpool held a meeting with Jamie Carragher to discuss his coverage of the club, it has been revealed. On Sky Sports Monday Night Football , the club icon delivered a stinging, eight-minute response to Mohamed Salah's criticism of Arne Slot .

After Liverpool's 3-3 away draw with Leeds United , the Egyptian marched to the mixed zone at Elland Road and accused the club of "throwing him under the bus" , stated he has "no relationship" with Slot and also insinuated this weekend's home fixture with Brighton and Hove Albion may be his final match for the club. As part of his tirade, Salah also had a cheeky jab at Carragher, while in discussion with stunned reporters.

In response, Salah was left out of the Liverpool squad which overcame Inter Milan 1-0 in a crucial Champions League away match . One night after accusing him of trying to "get the manager sacked," Carragher apologised to Salah on air while also telling him to "behave yourself off the pitch." However, further reports also state that Salah is not the only Liverpool player to take a dislike to Carragher's punditry.

According to the Daily Mail , the club held, what was described as a "secret meeting," to discuss the way in which he covers Liverpool. This was, however, held before his fallout with Salah and is not something that is totally uncommon.

The club spoke to Carragher back in September about the tone of some of his coverage. He is, however, still comfortable speaking his mind and leaving no prisoners. His explosive rebuke of Salah lasted eight minutes and saw the defender call him a "disgrace" while also accusing him of trying to get Slot sacked.

He also said Salah was only "known as the man who failed at Chelsea " before he joined Liverpool, referencing the 33-year-old's unsuccessful spell at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho , which saw him contribute two goals and three assists in only 19 appearances, between 2013 and 2015. Carragher did apologise live on air on CBS Sports' Champions League coverage, where he is known for working alongside Thierry Henry, Kate Abdo and Micah Richards, but did not take back any of his words.

The ex-England international said: "Mo, I apologise I've upset you. I love you as the Liverpool player, but you just need to behave yourself off the pitch."

Salah is yet to respond to any of Carragher's comments, whether it's his fierce condemnation on Monday Night Football or his apology on CBS.

It appears Salah is not the only Reds player who is not too enamoured with Carragher's punditry. The same Mail report also claimed many members of the Liverpool squad have grown 'irritated' by the 47-year-old's comments.

Carragher has been approached for comment.

The Sky Sports star is one of the most high-profile football pundits in the country, with his views on major platforms having an enormous reach. The same report claims that the ex-Liverpool star is comfortable with his approach to his work for Sky Sports and American network CBS, with one source insisting that his opinions are "honest" and "come from a good place".

The situation between him and the Liverpool stars is similar to Gary Neville and Paul Scholes' relationship with the Manchester United players, with claims that some Red Devils have refused to work with the club icons.

Salah does not depart for the Africa Cup of Nations until after the Brighton match, meaning there is still time for him and the club to discuss the future. The 33-year-old is a confirmed target for Saudi clubs ahead of the January transfer window , though Liverpool are not ruling out a solution and way back for the legendary winger.
