Man United 1-2 Brighton: Jason Steele tops FA Cup player ratings
Jason Steele led the way as Brighton beat Man United 2-1 in the FA Cup , the goalkeeper topping fan ratings after a commanding display at Old Trafford.
Steele made two big saves inside the opening 10 minutes, first denying Diogo Dalot one on one, then pushing away a Bruno Fernandes free kick. According to WeAreBrighton.com, he finished as their highest-rated player.
Brajan Gruda struck on 12 minutes, finishing after a header from Georginio Rutter was cleared off the line. Danny Welbeck then lashed in the second from Gruda’s square pass, before Benjamin Sesko pulled one back in the final five minutes.
Fabian Hurzeler, the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history, rested Lewis Dunk, Jan Paul van Hecke and Kaoru Mitoma yet found the right balance. That allowed minutes for Diego Coppola and Olivier Boscagli, both steady at centre back.
Ferdi Kadioglu impressed at left back, while Jack Hinshelwood and Pascal Gross kept midfield tidy. Gruda earned one of the higher marks, with Rutter’s graft creating space for Welbeck, who has eight career goals against United, including six at Old Trafford.
There were solid cameos too, with Yasin Ayari bringing energy, van Hecke tightening the back line, Mitoma introduced late to pin United back and Charalampos Kostoulas winning a free kick to run down the clock. Rumours persist of possible January loans for Coppola and Boscagli, including interest from AC Milan and Fenerbahce, though Brighton’s progress should mean round four minutes.
